DJI Mini vs DJI Air: Which Should You Buy?

The DJI Mini and DJI Air series cover the vast majority of consumer and prosumer drone buyers in the UK. Here's how to choose between them without wasting hundreds of pounds.

The short answer

  • Choose Mini if you want maximum legal freedom (sub-249 g, A1 subcategory) and travel-friendly weight.
  • Choose Air if you want a bigger sensor, longer flight time, and better performance in wind — and you're willing to fly in A2 or take an A2 CofC.

When Mini is the right call

  • You're new to drones and want the friendliest UK legal path.
  • You travel with it and every gram of luggage matters.
  • You mostly film in good light and don't need a 1-inch sensor.

When Air is the right call

  • You already have — or will get — an A2 CofC.
  • You want dual focal lengths and better low-light performance.
  • You fly in windier conditions or need longer battery life for real jobs.

The Drone-Sales verdict

For most UK buyers under £900, the Mini 4 Pro is the smarter first drone — you keep A1 legality and get 90% of the Air's practical capability. Step up to the Air 3S only if the sensor upgrade earns its keep for your work, and plan the A2 CofC at the same time.
